On Saturday 4 June 2016 members were invited to visit the impressive Bombardier train servicing facilities at Etches Park, Derby.  This extensive servicing facilities are used to maintain the 23 type 222 'Meridian' diesel electric multiple unit sets as well as classes 153, 156 and 158 operated by East Midlands Trains. Servicing equipment includes under rail lathes for machining wheelsets without the need for them to be removed from the trains.

The modern 222 DMU sets  are capable of running at speeds up to 125 mph and are used on main line services between London St Pancras, Leicester, Derby. Nottingham and Sheffield.
